The ATA.ORG, American Tinnitus Association’s website says, Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. While it is commonly referred to as “ringing in the ears,” tinnitus can manifest many different perceptions of sound, including buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, and clicking. In some rare cases, tinnitus patients report hearing music. Tinnitus can be both an acute (temporary) condition or a chronic (ongoing) health malady. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that nearly 15% of the general public — over 50 million Americans — experience some form of tinnitus.
As someone who has more than 35 years of experience with the “ringing ears” phenomenon, the constant racket that plays morning, noon, night can, at times, be maddening, if not exhausting, frightening, and VERY LOUD. I am 70, and have lived with both ears buzzing, singing, chirping, for half of my life. I have never been to see an ear/nose/throat doc for a hearing test or to learn any specifics about my “case.” I generally stay away from the medical world to the best of my ability. To say, though that I have tried dozens of homeopathic remedies, energy healing, ear candling, acupuncture, every supplement claiming to help reduce tinnitus, as well as trying to ignore it, is to say that I have researched online for years the latest/greatest to no avail.
Lately something has dramatically shifted – the noise seems to be either completely silenced in my right ear (post joint replacement surgery 4 months ago), or the volume is so low that I cannot hear it. I suppose it’s possible that the volume in my left ear, then, which has increased intensely, is drowning out the sounds in my right ear! Whatever it is, the left ear racket had been almost unbearably loud and seemingly unstoppable, until, a recent cranial sacral session with a massage therapist. After her work, and for 3 days afterward, the noise was reduced by at least 90%, it was heavenly! But, it returned. Yesterday, I went to my “mojo doc” chiropractor who doesn’t do traditional chiropractic, but an amalgam of techniques, including acupressure. I told him about my noisy left ear, and he immediately went to work on my right foot, applying pressure to a hollowed out spot at the base of 2 toe bones. When I left, the noise again had reduced by 90%. It’s 24 hr’s since and the noise is still mostly gone. I don’t know how long this will remain, but for those who can relate, it’s a miracle. I am feeling hopeful, upbeat and excited.
